CNRS study - Feelings of cold bath users
This study looks at the effects of bathing on the physical and psychological health of individuals in the long term. The data was collected from regular bathers, and the results highlight significant benefits associated with swimming.
As part of this survey, 87% of participants reported an improvement in their physical fitness thanks to swimming, with none of them reporting a negative improvement. Additionally, all participants (100%) indicated that their moral well-being was positively influenced by swimming.
The physical benefits perceived in the long term by bathers are multiple. They include better breathing, a reduction in osteoarthritis attacks, improved blood circulation and greater resistance to cold. In addition, participants described sensations of internal movement in their body as well as firmer skin and an even complexion. Benefits also include a reduction in rheumatism, back pain, tension points and cold symptoms. Some have even reported that age-related pain has disappeared thanks to swimming.
Psychologically, participants expressed lasting positive effects. They felt a sense of privilege linked to the beauty of the surrounding landscapes, as well as an improvement in their morale and their desire to start again. Positive emotions such as joy, enthusiasm and a feeling of invincibility were also mentioned.
An interesting finding from this study is the accumulation of physical and psychological benefits in some participants. For them, increased morale was associated with increased physical resistance. Moments of sharing and conviviality have been linked to increased moral well-being and better physical health. Boosting the immune system and improving the mind have also been attributed to the effects of bathing.
